About us

Creating together, appreciating art together

Chandos Society of Artists is an exhibiting, supportive and friendly art group for people who enjoy making, learning about and appreciating the visual arts.

Our story

We've been going since 1961, when the society was founded by Jean Rees RA — who was also a co-founder of Bridgwater Arts Centre, one of the very first arts centres in the country.

More than 65 years on, we're still a part of the local arts community in and around Bridgwater. We meet regularly to paint, share ideas and support one another's creative development, and we organise exhibitions, workshops, talks and events throughout the year.

Our aim is simple

  • Creating together
  • Appreciating the visual arts together
  • Making art available for everyone

We welcome artists at all stages — from complete beginners to experienced exhibitors — and across all mediums.

Exhibiting with Chandos

We aim to create exhibitions that are welcoming, varied and of a good standard. Members are invited to submit work throughout the year, and if you're new to exhibiting, we're very happy to help with preparing your work, framing and presentation, pricing, and labels. Everyone starts somewhere.
